The Marine pub branding
Client:
The Marine
The Marine is a Grade II–Listed pub dating back to 1875 on the Isle of Wight. A well–known live music venue, popular with local bands and during the famous Isle of Wight Scooter Rally. The venue had fallen into disrepair and was under new management when Larking was approached to rebrand the pub.
The brief was to create a traditional public house theme with some industrial elements to give it a more contemporary feel and smarter finish. All the features and historic characteristics of the existing building were to be retained and sympathetically restored giving the venue back its authentic, traditional feel.
Detailed research into the history of the building at the local museum uncovered a lost photo of the venue in the late Victorian era. Woodford Bourne was chosen for the logotype because of its rounded feel and close resemblance to the original typeface used on the exterior of the building in the late 1800s.
The brand identity and designs for the exterior colour scheme were successfully submitted for planning permission in January 2020. The pub and website, with room booking integration, launched in August 2020 after a complete refurbishment.

“Lovely little seafront bar and hotel, beautifully renovated. A massive improvement over what it used to be!”
